Land swap could aid school

The Washoe County Commission on Tuesday delayed action on the high school site to give parties involved time to work out a proposed solution.
Bishop Manogue wants to build a new school on 90 acres near Rattlesnake Mountain. The land is owned by the federal Bureau of Land Management, but leased by the county for free.
School officials wanted the county to relinquish its hold on the land so it could buy it from the BLM.
But residents and outdoor enthusiasts objected, saying the land is some of the last remaining open space in the area and they want to keep it that way.
A Reno company, Capurro-Quilici Investments, has since offered to give the BLM about 60 acres it owns near the site in exchange for the property sought by Bishop Manogue.
