A 7-year-old Las Vegas girl died after the go-cart in which she was a passenger ran a stop sign and was hit by a car.
Misty Rider was riding through the intersection of Gateway Avenue at Chicago Avenue, near Lamb and Charleston boulevards, with her sister when their homemade go-cart ran into the path of a 1991 Mercury station wagon.
Misty's sister, 10-year-old Tiffany Rider, who was driving the go-cart, didn't stop for a posted stop sign, said Metro Police traffic Detective Steve Winne.
Tiffany suffered moderate injuries in the 6 p.m. accident Monday, near Lamb and Charleston boulevards.
Misty was thrown from the cart and hit her head. She died at University Medical Center four hours after the accident, Metro Police said.
The station wagon driver, Olga Charles, 37, wasn't injured.
Charles said she saw the girls a split-second before the accident, but was unable to stop in time. An investigation found that Charles was not at fault.
