High-ranking Philippine officials will be in Las Vegas later this week to attend the 8th annual International Convention of the Order of the Knights of Rizal.

Philippine Senate Majority Leader Francisco Tatad, Philippine ambassador to the United States Raul Ch. Rabe, and Supreme Commander Sir Rogelio Quiambao are expected to participate in the convention Friday through Sunday at the Sheraton Desert Inn.

Tatad also plans to tour Clark High School and meet with students.

Rep. John Ensign, R-Nev., will receive the Knight Grand Cross of Rizal, becoming only the second American to receive the fraternal order's highest rank for public service. The other recipient was former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger.

The honor is named after Dr. Jose Rizal, a Philippine national hero.

City Councilman Arnie Adamsen will deliver a welcome address Saturday at the convention and present the guests with a key to the city. Attending the convention will be delegates from Germany, Canada, Japan, Australia, Spain, and Malaysia as well as the Philippines and United States.
