Letter: Cancelling GOP fund-raiser a power play by big labor
Monday, May 5, 1997 | 11:59 a.m.
Who does the party think its constituents are? I guess all we have in Nevada is one big party -- the labor party. Where do entrepreneurs, capitalists (the people who pay the big tax bills in the state), and those with enough courage to create jobs for the masses go for representation if both parties have been bought and paid for by the Culinary Union? What about the good Americans that simply believe that the Constitution affords them the freedom of choice -- where do they go?
Ironically, it is the Culinary Union that calls the Elardis "lawbreakers." Where is the evidence that they have broken any laws? Seen any convictions lately (or ever)? Some disgruntled employee makes wild allegations about the Elardis' "secret spy center" (some secret, what casino doesn't have surveillance?) and the strategic placement of garden manure and suddenly they are "lawbreakers" -- go figure.
So the party decides to hold a fund-raiser in the only hotel generous enough to foot the bill, Guido and the boys from Chicago object, and the Republicans run for cover. Bet ya' they cross the picket line when it comes time to get for campaign contributions. But until they have enough fortitude to take a stance on the issues, they will not get my vote. "Consider the message sent."
