BOR plans to release water from reservoir
Monday, May 5, 1997 | 11:59 a.m.
The reservoir last week stored 303,349 acre-feet of water, about 3,000 acre-feet above the bureau's target for the end of April. The reservoir's capacity is about 317,000 acre-feet.
"The purpose of the releases is to make sure we don't over-top the boards" of the dam, Lyman McConnell, project manager for the Truckee-Carson Irrigation District, told the Lahontan Valley News.
"Right now we might have to do precautionary releases until the end of May."
The Stillwater National Wildlife Refuge, Fallon Paiute-Shoshone Indian Reservation wetlands, and Carson Lake Pasture and Marsh are first in line for excess water released.
Farmers also could benefit from excess water if enough is released.
