Where You Stand for March 28, 1997

I just had some tragic news. I was fostering a cat from the Animal Foundation. I would never, ever, ever deal with the Animal Foundation again. I took a cat that had five baby kittens and I had them for two weeks. Three of the kittens died and the mother had been ill when I took her. I nursed her for two weeks and she was much, much better. She was eating, she was drinking, she was the most friendly, lovable cat you'd ever want to see. There were absolutely no problems with her at all. This morning when the third kitten died I took her back. The person who took them assured me that they'd do everything they could to help the babies and that they would help the mother. She'd be spayed and then adopted out. When I called to see how they were doing, I was told very rudely ... that the cats were ill, so they had already been killed, put to sleep, and she said the animals were the property of the foundation.

Sometimes the really lightest moment of my evenings is when I happily find six differences in Hocus Pocus, which is drawn by Henry Boltinoff. It's really a joy sometimes to make up for some of the other strange news stories. Julian Loeb
As far as the 9-year-old kid (cement vandal) is concerned, crime must not be that bad if Metro, the district attorney's office and the school district have nothing better to do than harass little fourth-graders.
