Two local students are among the 575 high school seniors chosen nationally to receive a National Achievement Scholarship.
Sharona R. Washington of Clark High School and Madika M. Bryant of Chaparral High School will both receive a $2,000 college scholarship. Washington plans on studying genetic engineering and Bryant plans on becoming a family practice physician.
The Achievement Program, in existence since 1964, was created to increase the educational opportunities of academically talented black students. The scholarship recipients must meet high academic standards, must be recommended by their high school principal and must submit an essay describing their activities, personal interests and goals.
