Letter: Most dads are far from deadbeat
Thursday, March 13, 1997 | 11:59 a.m.
The court system and the judges are responsible for some dads' picking up and leaving. I don't know how these fathers stand all the stress and strain put on them during a divorce. The courts give the wife possession of the home he worked for, the custody of the children he wanted and as much child support as they can get. Oh yes, and her live-in boyfriend has the advantage of his former home, too. What would you do in that situation?
I think it's about time somebody started printing the fathers' side of these easy divorces. All a woman has to do is run to a lawyer and say, "I want a divorce." Then the judges see to it that she gets everything -- including all that tax-free money called child support. They do not even have to acount to anyone where that money is being spent. It's a perfect racket.
There are a lot of good, decent, responsible fathers out there, being taken advantage of every day in the family court system. Please start considering the men as human beings, too.
