Fernandez earns tourney spot

Christine Fernandez of Henderson shot a 79 Sunday at The Legacy Golf Club in Green Valley and earned a spot in the field for this week's American Junior Golf Association's Las Vegas Founders' Legacy Junior golf tournament.
A field of 90 boys and girls from 12 states will be competing in the 54-hole tournament, which begins Tuesday and concludes Thursday with tee times from 7-9 a.m. each morning at The Legacy. Competition will be held in both boys (ages 15-18) and girls (ages 13-18) divisions.
Among the local players competing in the boys division will be Billy Harvey, an honorable mention AJGA All-American, Ben Auten, Randy Creighton, Joel Kijowski, Tyler Mays and Tyler Nielson.
The girls division will be led by Las Vegan Stephanie Keever, a runner-up in the Legacy Junior in 1995 and a fourth-place finisher last year, and will include Las Vegans Jordan Auten, Erin Borcherts, Michelle Guillaume, Annie Schlosser and Amber Williams.
