After starting out the second half by being in every one of their first seven games, the Stars were blown out early Wednesday by Tacoma. The Rainiers jumped on starter Rafael Medina for five runs in the third and three in the fourth. The Rainiers scored three more in the fifth off reliever Bob Scanlan to take an 11-1 lead. Las Vegas cut the lead to 12-6 with a five-run seventh, highlighted by Steve Scarsone's grand slam. After Tacoma scored two in the eighth, the Stars got three runs in the eighth to produce the 14-9 final. ... It was the 15th time this season the Stars have allowed 10 or more runs in a game. ... Tacoma had three home runs and six doubles in the game. ... Scarsone was 2-for-2 with a double, a grand slam and four RBIs. ... Four Tacoma batters has three hits each, led by Andy Sheets' 3-for-5, 4-RBI performance. ... The loss snapped the Stars' three-game winning streak and denied them of their first series sweep of the season. ... Stars reliever Todd Schmitt leads the Pacific Coast League in appearances with 34. ... Doug Dascenzo leads the Stars with a career-high eight home runs and 37 RBIs.

Upcoming games

The Stars begin a four-game road trip to Colorado Springs tonight at 6:05. Las Vegas returns to Cashman Field on Monday for a four-game series with the Albuquerque Dukes.

All Stars road games are broadcast live on KBAD 920-AM with Jon Sandler providing the play-by-play. Saturday's game at Colorado Springs will be televised live on Prime Cable channels 1 and 48.
