Hearing set on LV Family Court judge
Thursday, June 26, 1997 | 11:49 a.m.
Marren is accused of taking an unreasonable amount of time to make three decisions. His attorney, Steve Wolfson, said in May that Marren will admit he took too long and will seek leniency based on mitigating evidence he will offer.
Frank Cremen, special prosecutor for the case, said he may not find it necessary to present witnesses, since most of the facts are undisputed.
Leonard Gang, executive director of the commission, said judicial discipline hearings are similar to court proceedings, and only witnesses called by one side or the other will be allowed to testify.
After hearing any testimony presented, the seven-member commission will adjourn and debate the case privately. A decision, and any punishment, is usually announced within about 10 days.
Possible punishments range from a fine or compulsory counseling to removal from the bench. The commission also could require the judge to make a public apology.
