Where You Stand for June 6, 1997

Whoever cleaned up Sherrice Iverson's father - as his picture was shown in Sunday's paper - cannot make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. He is 100 percent guilty of child abuse as much as the slimeball who committed the crime. I hope that kid burns in hell.

Regarding Sherrice Iverson: I would like to know exactly where and when this father feels his responsibility was to begin. He drives two minor children - 14 and 7 - from L.A. to a (Primm) casino. He arrives after midnight and does not feel it is necessary to secure a room, thereby denying this little girl a bed. He came to gamble and does not feel responsible enough to monitor where his children are.

The other day, as I was walking down the street, some subhuman pulled his car over to the curb and sprayed mace into my eye. And I just wanted to say that all the rescue personnel were wonderful. I was really quite shaken since nothing that uncivilized had ever happened to me. I really thought someone had thrown acid into my face and everyone was so reassuring as well as professional, healing body and soul. I didn't get all the names; the building custodian who let me in and dialed 911 for me so I could flush my eye, the dispatcher who then stayed with me on the line until help came, and two great firemen and two great medics, a great police officer, Jim Monaco, who helped restore my faith in human nature in general and the police force in particular.
