UNLV roundup: Harper in semifinals of 2 sprint races at NCAA track

UNLV junior sprinter Hydiane Harper moved to the semifinals of the 100-meter dash Thursday with a qualifying time of 11.62 seconds in the NCAA Track & Field Championships at Bloomington, Ind.
Harper, who also advanced to the semis in the 200-meter run with the seventh fastest time of the day (23.51), will have a busy day today. She will run in the finals of the 4 x 100-meter relay and the 100 and 200 semis.
A native of Trinidad & Tobago, Harper joins Dahhia Smith, Alicia Tyson and Donielle Twitty in the relay. The Rebels posted the sixth-fastest time (44.48) in the semifinal heat.
Rondina cited
UNLV softball shortstop Kim Rondina was named a first-team Academic All-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America and GTE. The Scottsdale, Ariz., native posted a grade-point average of 3.68 in sports injury management. She is only the second Rebel ever to be named a three-time All-American as well as the first first-team Academic All-American and two-time Academic All-American. She was on the third academic team two years ago.
Tennis honors
Senior tennis players Luke Smith and Tim Blenkiron, the NCAA champions in singles and doubles, and coach Larry Easley will be honored Monday by the Nevada Assembly, Senate and Gov. Bob Miller.
