Postal worker claims employees exposed to asbestos

Friday, June 6, 1997 | 5:47 a.m.

Gene Johnson filed a complaint with the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration, saying workers removed hazardous material from the roof of the building while employees worked inside without protective gear.

Johnson said concerns were raised when workers started taking air samples. He said workers were exposed to the asbestos and no notice was given prior to the removal project.

Johnson said 37 letter carriers and 12 clerks work at the station.
