The Inner-City Games also will conduct a track and field clinic 9 a.m.-noon Saturday at Las Vegas High School, 6500 E. Sahara Ave., and a hip-hop dance clinic 5-7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Valley High School, 2839 Burnham Ave.
Gold, silver and bronze medals will be at stake at the tennis finals when more than 100 youngsters compete for individual championships in four age and gender groups: 7-8, 9-10, 11-12 and 13-17.
In addition to the tennis finals, the Inner-City Games will conduct a track and field clinic which is expected to attract more than 500 local youths. The program will be led by Bob Peck and Steve Mead of the Las Vegas Parks and Leisure Services Department.
"Participants will be able to take part in five activities offered at the clinic, including the 50-meter dash, the 1,600-meter run, relay exchanges, softball throw and long jump," Mead said. "This program is designed to introduce the kids to a wide variety of events and to get them ready for the track and field finals."
All participants will receive their Inner-City Games medals for the successful completion of the track and field program. Those who completed the track and field clinics are also eligible to compete in the finals on June 14 at Las Vegas High School.
With the end of the nine-month school year, the Inner-City Games will offer the first of many weekday events with the hip-hop dance clinic. Nike Culture Shock will conduct the three weeks of clinics which will lead to the competition July 12 at Las Vegas Academy.
"The Inner-City Games and Culture Shock have the same philosophy, which is providing kids with fun, positive alternatives and improving their self-esteem," said Darryl Thomas, director of Culture Shock. "We are extremely happy to be part of a program that can reach so many kids."
The clinics and competitions of the Greater Las Vegas Inner-City Games are free.
