White Pine County and Ely City plan to share certain government costs

Wednesday, June 4, 1997 | 10:34 a.m.

Both entities will have a say in how operations are conducted.

"There needs to be cooperation and communication on both sides or this agreement will fail," said County Recorder Joe Petrelli.

Under the agreement, the city and county will split animal control and cemetery costs. The county will pick up 39.2 percent of fire protection costs and will match city road expenditures dollar for dollar.

The agreement is contingent upon legal review.

Mayor Jack Smith said the agreement is fair and urged the commission's approval.

"The spirit of this thing is trying something we can both live with," he said. "If you're going to nitpick this without trying it, we are going to go back to having no agreement and this didn't precipitate good feelings in the past."
