Sparks flushing, testing fire hydrants; brown water expected

That's because the Sparks Fire Department is flushing and testing hydrants around the city to make sure they are operating properly.
One of the side effects is that flushing hydrants loosens rust deposits, sediment and debris in water lines, officials said.
Westpac Utilities said running the cold water tap for a short time should take care of the problem.
Officials said residents should make sure their water is clear before using it, and further urged them not to do laundry if their water is discolored to avoid staining clothes with rust deposits.
The hydrant testing program is scheduled to continue seven days a week through the end of the month, the fire department said.
