The total value of building permits issued in April was $2.5 million. That compares with $3.3 million issued during the same month in 1996, figures showed.
"It looks like we're issuing more permits for remodeling of existing homes and garages and less for building of new homes," said Jennifer Sarman of the Elko County Community Development Department.
The 23 new home building permits issued in April is down 11 from the same month last year.
