Now, the rest of the country knows it as well.
A magazine on the business of special events has listed the Elko County Fair and Livestock Show among the top 20 events in the United States and Canada.
The March-April edition of Events Business News said of the annual event: "After the hay is harvested but before the fall roundup begins, folks in Elko County gather at the fair to visit neighbors and old friends. They bring their goods to be exhibited, wager on the horse races and enjoy good barbecues."
According to the article, selection to the list was based on event management, area impact, history, entertainment value and promotional-sponsorship relations.
Ramona Lund, promotional manager for the fair, said the listing is a credit to the event and the community.
"Having a great fair is not accomplished in just a few years," Lund said. "It takes time, hard work and commitment from the entire community. This award belongs to you, Elko County."
