Few turned out to vote

Voter turnout for municipal elections in Clark County was low, as expected.
The top turnout Tuesday was recorded in Boulder City, where 47.92 percent of registered voters cast ballots.
The other cities broke down as follows:
* Las Vegas: 11.48 percent. The citywide turnout is particularly low because one-fourth of Las Vegas voters had only one municipal judge race to vote on.
* Las Vegas, Ward 4: 20.29 percent. A hotly contested City Council race in Ward 4 failed to generate substantial voter interest.
* North Las Vegas: 27.99 percent.
* Henderson: 16.86 percent.
Election officials said interest in municipal races is typically lower than in statewide and federal contests, when 50 percent or more of registered voters go to the polls.
Turnout should be substantially higher in the 1998 elections when Nevadans will vote for U.S. senator, U.S. congressmen and governor.
