Jeff Gibbons was listed in fair condition at John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek with injuries to his back and pelvis.
The Nevada congressman's wife, Dawn Gibbons, told KRNV-FM the teen also has a collapsed lung. He is one of 32 people injured in the accident that killed a 17-year-old girl.
Jeff Gibbons is the son of Glenn Gibbons who works in the Washoe County assessor's office.
A group of graduating Napa High School seniors on their year-end picnic rushed onto the slide at Waterworld Monday and it collapsed under their weight.
Witnesses say the students tried to squeeze in one final ride before they had to leave for the day.
Waterworld USA thinks it was a possible effort to set a school record for the number of people to go down the slide together.
