Where You Stand for June 3, 1997

This is in regard to the 7-year-old who was murdered. More parents need to take responsibility and precautions for the safety of their children whether they are at home, shopping, vacationing or whatever. Children are vulnerable targets for the sickos in our society. The mind-set that thinks it can't happen to us needs to be drastically changed. The safety of all children everywhere needs to be a No. 1 priority in the adult world.

Well, now that the little girl was killed out in Primm, they will probably blame all the casinos. But they forget that more kids get in trouble in church than they do in casinos. We've got to keep this thing in perspective.

I am very disturbed about the little girl who was murdered. I moved to Nevada a year ago and love the slot machines, but it has been very disturbing to watch parents with little children playing. Why not have a baby-sitting area? It would alleviate a lot of problems. No need to make it expensive. I imagine this would be much safer.

I just read about the taxi drivers and people smoking in their cabs. I'm 88 years old and it's very hard for me to get around. Drivers see me hardly able to get in and out of the cab, but they don't get out of their seats to open or close my door. I leave them at least a 15 percent tip, so why don't they get out of the cabs like they used to? I've lived here since 1957 and I think it's a disgrace the way they treat the elderly.

I'd like to make a comment on this President Clinton-Paula Jones deal. I am sick and tired of hearing about this woman and her morals. According to her family, her morals are those of an alley cat. And why in the world the media persists in downing our president and holding this woman up as a paragon of virtue I cannot understand. I would appreciate it if somebody would be kind of enough to give our president a little kudos for good things done for our country.
