The death of Deputy Frank Minnie Sr., 44, remained under investigation, but an autopsy concluded he died of injuries related to the motorcycle crash on Friday.
Nevada Highway Patrol spokeswoman Janay Winkler said it may never be known why Minnie's head appeared to snap back just before his motorcycle crashed on Interstate 80 near Boomtown.
Minnie was traveling at about 70 mph while responding to a trespassing call when the accident occurred.
The funeral service for Minnie was scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday at Lawlor Events Center. Graveside services will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
