Of 77 people who called in as of Friday, 69 were against it and only eight said they favored the proposal, up for debate Tuesday before a special legislative committee.
Steve Watson, deputy director of the Legislative Counsel Bureau, said information on the calls will go to Assemblyman Lynn Hettrick, R-Gardnerville, who sits on the committee.
The Tahoe Citizens Committee, a group of about 1,000 dissatisfied Lake Tahoe residents, is pushing for its own county that would stretch along the east side of Tahoe from Stateline north to Crystal Bay.
Convinced that Tahoe County is the best solution to their unique problems at Lake Tahoe, the TCC has taken its case to the Legislature - the only body capable of redrawing county lines.
Last week, Douglas County business leaders urged residents to call the lawmaker's hot line and register their opinions. Both the Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce and the Business Council of Douglas County have publicly announced their opposition to the Tahoe County movement.
Kelly Krolicki, TCC executive coordinator, encouraged supporters of Tahoe County to voice their opinions via the hot line as well.
Krolicki said the TCC will give a presentation detailing the problems Lake Tahoe citizens face and the data to back up their belief that Tahoe County is the answer. About 20 people are scheduled to testify, but as many as 200 could show up to support their movement.
