Letter: SUN letter writers present oddball ideas

For example, the other day in the SUN, there were two letters I would like to explore. The first writer, Marion Rogers, supports AB191, now before the Assembly, that would allow the burden of water costs to be passed on to tourists. If enacted, even visitors from Mars would object. Tourist money is the lifeblood of this state and to tax these people for flushing water down their toilet bowls or taking a shower is ludicrous. If I was the tourist, I would offset the water tax by putting only nickels in the slots instead of quarters.
The other letter was from Jack Cook, who, I assume, is a taxi driver. In deference to the passengers, he would like the Taxi Authority to put a stop to cab drivers smoking while on duty. But then, he would encourage cigar-smoking cabbies to put "Smoking Taxi" signs on their windows to entice kindred smokers to ride with them. Such camaraderie would generate bigger tips. However well meaning Cook's suggestions, I fear they will all go up in smoke.
