Friend likely won’t be charged in casino slaying, district attorney says

Monday, June 2, 1997 | 11:59 a.m.

There's "every indication" 18-year-old David Cash is not a suspect in the killing of the young girl in a casino arcade at the Primmadonna Resort May 25, Clark County District Attorney Stewart Bell said. "He appears to be a witness, not a principal."

Jeremy Strohmeyer, 18, is charged with the pre-dawn rape and murder of the young girl, whose father, Leroy Iverson, was gambling in the hotel's casino.

Cash was seen in a surveillance videotape with Strohmeyer at the resort.

Strohmeyer, of Long Beach, was arrested Wednesday and Nevada police said he confessed to killing the girl.

An extradition hearing scheduled for Monday was reset for Tuesday because of a scheduling conflict with defense attorney Leslie Abramson.

Cash was questioned at length and released. He told detectives he saw Strohmeyer struggling with the girl, and he walked away.

"Witnessing a crime doesn't make you a part of it," Bell said Monday. "There has to be some conduct in which you participate in the crime. If he did something that promoted the crime, then he might be charged."

Bell said his decision on any charges against Cash would depend on further police reports, and a decision could come in the next day or two.

Las Vegas Metro Police said the homicide unit was sending most of its investigative findings to the district attorney's office on Monday.

Strohmeyer is expected to say whether or not he will fight extradition to Nevada, where a fugitive warrant has been issued for his arrest.

Strohmeyer originally said he would not fight extradition, but then said he had changed his mind.
