DA mulls charges in girl’s murder

Monday, June 2, 1997 | 11:59 a.m.

Metro Police's homicide unit is sending most of its investigation findings to the district attorney's office today in the Memorial Day weekend murder of 7-year-old Sherrice Iverson at a Primm casino.

"The DA will get the bulk of our reports today, and he'll start reviewing them," homicide Sgt. Bill Keeton said.

The Los Angeles girl was raped and strangled May 25 in a Primm Valley hotel-casino restroom. Jeremy Strohmeyer, 18, was arrested Wednesday at his Long Beach home, where he lived with his parents, after several friends reported to police that Strohmeyer had talked about the murder.

Strohmeyer has indicated he will fight extradition to Nevada.

"It might take a little longer, but we'll get him here," Keeton said today. He noted that it's Strohmeyer's attorney, not Strohmeyer, who is fighting extradition.

Strohmeyer's friend, 18-year-old David Cash, who was seen in a surveillance videotape with Strohmeyer at the resort at the time of Sherrice's death, was questioned at length and released. He told detectives he saw Strohmeyer struggling with the girl, and he walked away.

When asked if Cash could be charged with a crime for not reporting the incident to the casino's security officers, Keeton said, "That'll be up to the DA's office if he's charged with anything."

At this point, he said, Cash is considered a witness for the prosecution.
