Bus service seeks help from city

Ely BUSS spokesman Wayne Cameron said the dial-a-ride service has had steady growth since it was established in 1995.
"We are asking for the $10,000 to upgrade our current system," he told council members. "Right now we are going as far as we can go. Our goal is to put a full service system in McGill."
The service currently provides transportation within Ely, to Ruth, McGill and the state prison on the outskirts of town, the Ely Daily Times reported.
Cameron said the bulk of riders are senior citizens, but the service is catching on with other users, such as people from families with one vehicle.
"Some of our clients work at the mines and are a part of a single-car family," he said. "The spouse is left at home without transportation so they call us."
The City Council delayed action on the request at its May 22 meeting.
