50 protest using park funds for Vegas attraction
Monday, June 2, 1997 | 11:59 a.m.
The protesters sat on blankets, tossed softballs and munched on fried chicken as 10 Metro Police officers stood by but did not interfere.
Mark Paris, president of the Fremont Street Experience, said some 20,000 to 30,000 people visit the $70 million attraction daily, and the protest was very small in comparison.
The attraction was designated a public park so it could qualify for $8 million in assistance from the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority over an eight-year period.
