"This was an inhumane and cowardly act with no respect for the people who own those cows and no respect for this community. This was just a shocking act that you and your friends did," District Judge Jack Ames told Jason Davenport.
Davenport, 17, was arrested along with Buck Mills, 18, and Mike Hunton, 16, also of Elko, for the killings May 13. Mills faces trial Aug. 12 and Hunton is working on a plea agreement.
Ames ordered Davenport to try to join the youth center's fire department so he can begin repaying the owners of the cattle and to get a job upon release to keep up his payments. The market value of the stock is estimated at $20,000.
