Recall effort moves forward

County Clerk Judy Negro said the petition drive picked up 580 verified signatures to call for a recall election against Fouts. There were 605 valid signatures to recall Estes with 619 names eligible to recall Mattly.
The terms of all three expire in November 1998. Negro expects a special election to be called toward the end of September or the first part of October, if there are no major challenges, the Elko Daily Free Press reported.
The heading on the three petitions claimed the two commissioners haven't exercised good judgment or common sense in making decisions affecting Lander County's finances and haven't shown respect to county citizens.
Mattly is accused of not demonstrating a concern for equal justice, not showing good judgment or common sense in prosecuting criminals, persecuting innocent people for personal and political reasons and having excessive concern for personal vendettas.
