TACOMA, Wash. -- Once again, the Las Vegas Stars' bullpen could not hold a lead.
Brian Raabe singled in the winning run with two outs in the ninth inning as the Tacoma Rainiers rallied from a 6-1 deficit to beat the Stars 7-6 Monday night at Cheney Stadium.
Trailing 6-1 after five innings, the Rainiers scored three unearned runs off Stars starter Kerry Taylor to close to 5-4. Tacoma added two runs in the eighth to tie the score.
Dario Veras (0-2) came on the pitch the ninth for the Stars and got one quick out before giving up a bloop double to Lee Tinsley that fell in between three Stars players in shallow right-center field. Veras struck out the next hitter he faced but Raabe hit a single to the gap in left-center that scored Tinsley with the winning run.
Las Vegas took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a two-run, bases-loaded single by Reuben Rivera. The Stars made it 6-1 in the fifth on an RBI single by Trey Beamon, a run-scoring fielder's choice by Rivera and a two-run single by Chad Tredaway.
Stars center fielder Doug Dascenzo had a pair of singles and extended his hitting streak to 12 games. Beamon and Derrek L. Lee each had three hits for Las Vegas.
The teams conclude the series tonight at 7:05 and, after a day off Wednesday, the Stars open a 12-game homestand on Thursday at Cashman Field.
