Letter: Smokers shouldn’t impose their addiction on others

Friday, July 25, 1997 | 10:29 a.m.

Recently, my mother and I made the unfortunate choice to go to Texas Station to see the fireworks. Granted, there was nothing wrong with the fireworks display, that was beautiful. The problem is what happened after the fireworks.

My mother and I ventured into the casino or, as it was in reality, one huge cigarette! In light of this problem, I would like to suggest a name change from Texas Station to Toxic Station or, if the owners don't like that, how about Asphyxiation Station? Both names depict the reality for anyone who enters the premises. To be fair, this is true of all casinos and is a great injustice to all of us who require oxygen to breathe and have made the smart choice not to smoke cigarettes.

To you smokers who light up in public places, I have something to say. You are rude, weak, selfish and inconsiderate. I know you feel you have a right to feed your addiction. You do, in the privacy of your own home, as long as you have no nonsmokers living at home. You have the right to poison your own lungs, your own body. That is your choice. But you never should have the right to poison my lungs or my body ever! You have no right to impose your addiction on me.
