Students honored

Four local high school graduates have been named Merit Scholars for 1997, joining nearly 7,000 other students from around the country who received the college-sponsored honor.
William Beeson, an honors graduate of Cimarron-Memorial High School, has received a scholarship to attend Arizona State University to study engineering. Beeson was a member of the varsity volleyball team.
Melissa Sundell, also a graduate of Cimarron-Memorial, received a scholarship to attend Brigham Young University. Sundell is a member of the National Honor Society and while at Cimarron-Memorial was a member of the forensics team, Interact, and the freshman and junior varsity volleyball teams. She received the Rotary Club Youth Leadership Award and was recognized twice for a Nevada Secondary Schools Math Competition honors paper.
Green Valley High School graduate Sarah Savage received a scholarship to study computer science at Brigham Young University. Savage is a member of the National Honor Society and while at Green Valley she made the all-state choir, the county honor choir twice, and the concert choir three times. She was also secretary of the science and technology club, president of her church youth group and a member of the Key Club and Mu Alpha Theta.
Kathryn Wohlrab received a scholarship to attend the University of Houston. She graduated from the Las Vegas Academy.
The scholarships range from $250 to $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at the sponsor institution.
