Letter: Closing Children’s Home a legislative outrage
Thursday, July 24, 1997 | 9:32 a.m.
Read Mike O'Callaghan's recent columns. They let the Southern Nevada Children's Home deteriorate so they could close it, with the treasury loaded with money. Did you help put that money in? Children need these good homes and good people to love and care for them. The Miller administration does all it can to help the wealthy. The City Council and County Commission do all they can to hurt the working or unemployed people.
Instead of giving money to the man with the sign on the street, take the time to take him somewhere and buy him some groceries to feed his kids. It doesn't take a lot of time or money to help if it's a legitimate cause. Find out.
I can't put all the blame on the above people. We voters are at fault. Some people never vote, some do not take the time to see who they are voting for and what he or she stands for or fights for or against. Voters have become fewer and fewer come election time. Don't you care? Do you not live in Nevada and enjoy the blessings of our state and nation? What are you letting us become? Watch the bills that go to the Legislature. Call and voice an opinion. The ones who do voice opinions far outnumber those of us who do not, therefore we end up with inadequate people to run our business of state and nation.
Come on, people, become interested, voice an opinion, fight for our rights or we soon won't have any to fight for.
