Board likes idea of restoring wetlands

Thursday, July 24, 1997 | 9:45 a.m.

While board members voted unanimously to support the Argenta marsh proposal, they added it was not their place to lead the restoration effort at this point.

"This is a golden opportunity," said board chairman Joel Lenz. "It would be tough to turn it down."

Voters in 1990 approved $47 million in bond for Nevada Division of Wildlife and state parks projects and purchases.

State wildlife officials said about $3 million remans in the agency's acquisition fund with another $800,000 for habitat improvement projects.

The state Wildlife Commission gathers public input on proposed projects and a legislative finance committee decides which ones to fund.
