Nevada Shakespeare in the Park, which is free to the public, is the result of months of fund-raising and planning on the part of many organizations and individuals. The Arts Council of Henderson/Green Valley is currently seeking donations and volunteers to help make the event as successful as it has been the past 10 years.
"The Arts Council is trying to build up its volunteer base," said Pamela Maines, development coordinator. "Every aspect of Nevada Shakespeare in the Park can use volunteers. In the past, everyone who has volunteered has had a lot of fun taking part in this exciting event."
This year, Nevada Shakespeare in the Park welcomes a new production company to the festival. The professional acting troupe, Excalibur Theater Co. of Los Angeles, will give three free performances of "The Tempest" as part of the week-long Shakespearean celebration presented by the Arts Council of Henderson-Green Valley.
"We welcome Excalibur Theater Co. of Los Angeles to the festival this year, and we are thrilled at how well the community has embraced this event," said Lloyd Cutler, president of the Arts Council. "Shakespeare in the Park is an event everyone will enjoy."
The festival enables the public to enjoy live professional outdoor theater, and holds great significance for the city of Henderson. Las year, nearly 25,000 people attended, making it the largest annual cultural event in Green Valley.
Nevada Shakespeare in the Park is made possible through volunteers, donations and sponsors. This year's sponsors include Henderson Parks and Recreation Department, the city of Henderson, Clark County School District, American Nevada Corp., Nevada Humanities Committee and Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.
