Orchestra musicians threaten to quit
Tuesday, July 15, 1997 | 2:06 a.m.
Mary Miller, one of three musician representatives, said the musicians are concerned about mismanagement of the orchestra.
The ultimatum comes after the board voted to replace orchestra founder and conductor Vahe Khochayan with Emil de Cou from the San Francisco Ballet.
"We are concerned about the apparent mismanagement of the orchestra," Miller said. "Even without Vahe, we are afraid the orchestra will go far beyond broke."
Khochayan founded the orchestra 23 years ago. He was replaced last week after he and the board failed to agree on a contract.
Phil Davis, orchestra board president, said no one would resign and added that Miller's comments are "not a fair representation of the situation."
