Letter: New residents don’t understand gaming’s contributions to area

These new implants do not know, nor wish to understand, that the early gaming pioneers and casinos were responsible for the community's many churches, parks, community centers, museums and cultural environment. These were not brought about by taxes but by people giving back to the community in which they lived, worked, played and were proud to be a part of. These newer residents have elected representatives who are themselves implants with the desire to make this great state as bad as the one they moved from.
This all goes back to the philosophy that, if you don't like something and can't tax it out of existence, pass laws to make it extinct. The prohibitionists unsuccessfully tried it with alcohol, and look at the problems that created. Now, they are trying it with tobacco and gambling. Think about this: If these two become illegal, who then will provide the governmental revenue generated by gambling and tobacco's already heavy tax base? You and I, the working public. That is, if we still have jobs to go to.
