Master class in flute will be conducted

Rick Soule, a professor of flute at UNLV, will conduct a pre-festival master class at 2 p.m. Feb. 9 at the Clark County Library, 1401 E. Flamingo Road.
He will perform the Mozart Concerto in D major prior to the class.
Flute Club members performing at the master class include: Paula Clarey and Katie Wohlrab, the first movement of the Mozart Concerto in D; Nicole Maccanello, Cantabile and Presto by Enesco; and Theresa Wang, the first movement of the Concerto by Pergolissi.
Soule is the principal flutist of the Nevada Symphony Orchestra and a founding member of the Sierra Winds. He is a former member of the Baltimore Symphony and the U.S. Naval Academy Band.
As a performer and clinician, he has served as guest artist at the San Diego and Fresno flute fairs, and has presented twice for Nevada All-State.
In the past three years, he has conducted clinics for nearly every high school flute section in the Clark County and Washoe County school districts.
Soule is founder and past president of the Las Vegas Flute Club and was a member of the 1989 National Flute Association delegation to the former Soviet Union. He has been a member of the board of directors of the National Flute Association and is the founder and network administrator of NFA Online, the electronic bulletin board of the National Flute Association.
He is the former director of the Chamber Music Southwest and recently was named music director of the Long Beach Island (N.J.) Arts Festival.
Soule traveled to France to perform at the conservatories of Nice and Aix en Provence.
He is a graduate of Boston University and the Peabody Conservatory.
