Letter: Only voters can restore sanity to runaway growth

I can re-call when the Sante Fe Casino was being built, one main condition was no neon signage. It was to be an inobtrusive resort. We couldn't stop the casino from being built but felt this was a necessary concession. It seemed like no more than a year later, a neon monument was being erected. Score one more for the developer and zero for the homeowner.
Whatever Las Vegas is to be is in the hands of you and I, the voters. There's been a lot of talk about the problems of our unbridled growth but very little action. Las Vegas seems destined to repeat the mistakes of every other city; an abandonment of the city core and leap-frog development of the outer limits of the city.
If elected officials are not responsive to you and I, petition for a re-call. The next time they're up for re-election, make your vote count. Hold elected officials accoutable for their actions and you'll certainly see a change. The effort is well worth it. Also, with so many part-time elected officials, I would like to see published whom each elected official is employed by. It never hurts for a developer to have an elected official on their payroll. Far be it from me to infer conflict of interest.
