A reflecting pool that was part of the art project on the front of the building is being replaced by desert landscaping. City officials say the move is designed to emphasize water conservation.
The reflecting pool was designed to enhance an art display on the front of city hall, but the pool leaked and was constantly polluted with garbage.
Artist William Maxwell, who created part of the display, will be used as a consultant on the new project.
