County commission approves ban on Strip smut peddling
Wednesday, Jan. 22, 1997 | 11:59 a.m.
The ban is scheduled to take effect Jan. 31.
But lawyers for some of the companies say they will fight the issue in court.
JoNell Thomas, an attorney representing a client she described as "a major smut peddler" said she will seek a temporary injunction to prohibit police from enforcing the measure.
She said the commission underestimates the number of people who come to Las Vegas for such adult activities.
There have been numerous complaints about hawkers who shove adult-oriented material into the hands of unsuspecting tourists walking along the Strip. The materials promote such businesses as outcall services, which police have called fronts for prostitution.
