Boys: Gaels, Wildcats stay spotless in divisions

Las Vegas High and Bishop Gorman retained their Southern AAAA Conference division leads with convincing wins Tuesday night.
The Wildcats ripped through Eldorado 87-67 in the Sunrise Division, while the Gaels routed Silverado 83-60 in the Sunset Division. Las Vegas and Gorman both are 5-0 in league play.
Lucas LeCour led Las Vegas with 21 points, including four 3-pointers, leading the visiting Wildcats (15-4 overall). Robbie Cole buried three treys and added 15 points, while Corey Kauffman chipped in 19.
The Wildcats were spectacular in the first half, racing out to a 54-23 lead.
"We played about as well as we can play in the first half," said Vegas coach Tom Farnsworth, whose club made 13 3-pointers.
Bishop Gorman (16-5) was equally impressive with its win over the visiting Skyhawks.
Darrell Ewell paced the Gaels with 14 points, while Kendall Soares added 13. All 12 players who suited out for Gorman scored, and the Gaels were 26 of 35 from the free-throw line.
* ELSEWHERE: Five Durango players, led by senior guard Thomas McTyer's 22 points, hit double figures as the Trailblazers downed Cimarron-Memorial 71-59 in Sunset Division action. Durango shot 53.2 percent from the field. ... Arthur Ireland poured in 23 points for Rancho, leading the Rams to a 76-41 whipping of Vo-Tech. Rancho is in fourth place in the Sunrise Division. ... Damon Caldwell was virtually a one-man show at Chaparral, scoring 28 points and leading Basic to a key 53-48 victory over the Cowboys. The Wolves are 4-1 in the Sunrise Division, tied with Valley one game behind Las Vegas. The Vikings on Tuesday night pounded Green Valley 69-48. ... Cheyenne stayed one game behind Gorman in the Sunset Division with a 62-51 win over Bonanza. ... Clark picked up an important road win Tuesday night, holding off Western 75-71. The Chargers improved to 3-2 in the league, tied for third with Dugo and Cimarron-Memorial.
