Assembly unanimously approves paycheck bill
Wednesday, Jan. 22, 1997 | 11:59 a.m.
SB1, introduced and passed by the Senate when the 1997 session convened Monday, compares with the $9 million in total costs for the 1995 session.
Assembly Speaker Joe Dini, D-Yerington, blamed the higher cost on inflation and renovations to the Legislative Building.
Many glitches remain from that renovation, including problems with a new electronic voting system. That meant the vote on SB1 had to be done the old way, by a roll call.
Also introduced Wednesday in the Assembly was AB33, a measure proposed by Assemblyman John Marvel, R-Battle Mountain. The bill asks for $400,000 for equipment and landscaping at the Winnemucca center of Great Basin College.
"When the school was originally constructed, there wasn't enough equipment there or any landscaping," Marvel said. "In the 1993 session we successfully got a building there. This bill should take care of the rest of their needs."
