Woman dies crossing LV street
Friday, Jan. 17, 1997 | 11:59 a.m.
A pedestrian was killed as she tried to cross Las Vegas Boulevard just north of Cheyenne Avenue.
Vicki Lee Crecelius, 48, of Las Vegas, left the mobile home park where she lived Thursday about 6 p.m. and stepped directly into the path of a 1989 Chevy pickup, Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Steve Harney said.
The driver, Eugene Willis, 31, of Las Vegas, tried to swerve to miss her, but the woman kept walking toward the truck, Harney said.
"At the last second he saw her, but it was too late," Harney said.
Crecelius was thrown into the windshield and died on impact, he said.
The driver did not appear to be at fault and was not expected to be cited, Harney said, noting that investigators believe the pedestrian had been drinking alcohol.
