Troubled Fernley clinic forced to shut down

Friday, Jan. 17, 1997 | 11:59 a.m.

Since it went into operation 15 months ago, the clinic has lost $100,000, according to Ken McBain, executive director of the Nevada Rural Health Centers Inc., which operates the center.

"We don't have the financial resources to sustain that kind of losses," he told the Fernley Leader-Dayton Courier. "It's an unfortunate situation."

Nevada Rural Health Centers operates seven other clinics throughout Nevada that are supported by the counties. Lyon County said from the outset that it would not underwrite the facility.
