* CRANBERRY WORLD WEST -- More than 500,000 visitors have toured Cranberry World West since it opened Jan. 13, 1995, and to celebrate, the Ocean Spray visitors center has donated 500 bottle of Ocean Spray juice to Child Haven. Child Haven is a division of the Clark County Department of Family and Youth Services and provides temporary care and treatment for abused, neglected and abandoned children ages 3 days to 18 years.

* PAWS FOR THE CAUSE -- The Hard Rock Hotel and Casino recently sponsored "Paws for the Cause," an animal adopt-a-thon in which 150 dogs and cats found a home in time for the holidays. All animals were already spayed or neutered and up to date on all shots. Iams Pet Food gave away "Luv A Pet" gift packs worth $97 to those who adopted a dog or puppy and gift packs worth $72 to animal fans who adopted a cat or kitten. The 18 sponsors who helped spread the word of the hundreds of animals at the Animal Foundation that need homes included Iams, Dogloo, Petsmart, Hard Rock Cafe, Southeast View, Citylife, Friendly Ford, Ralph Jones Display, Clay Nicholas Design, Pictographics, G. Casey Design, Creative Edge, Baskow Agency, Ahern Rentals, Abba Signs, Costello Beverage and Operetta Bakery.

* TOUR DE CURE '97 -- The local chapter of the American Diabetes Association's annual bicycle ride, "Tour De Cure '97," will be on May 3. The event is to raise awareness about diabetes as well as to raise money for diabetes research and programs. The bicycle tour will begin and end at Bruce Trent Park, at the corner of Vegas Drive and Rampart Boulevard. To accommodate riders of all levels, there will be three routes offered. For the casual rider, a 25K route (15 miles) will begin at the Summerlin Park and head south on Rampart to Lake Sahara, where the riders will enjoy a leisurely ride around the shores of Lake Sahara, returning to the park for refreshments. For the more experienced rider, there is a 50K (31 miles) route. The very serious riders will want to undertake the 100K (62 miles) ride. Early registration fee is $15 and all riders are encouraged to raise a minimum of $75 in pledges. For more information, or to register early, call Scott Dockswell, 369-9995.

Special needs

* WINTER DONATIONS NEEDED -- The Salvation Army needs donations of blankets, gloves and winter clothing for the hundreds of homeless men, women and children who are suffering on the streets of Las Vegas now that colder weather is here. Donations of these items can be dropped off at 2900 Palomino Lane or at 35 W. Owens Ave. in Las Vegas. Call 870-4430.

* FREE CELLULAR AIR TIME -- The House That Love Built is a cooperative promotional program between 360 Communications and the local McDonald's owner-operator association It hopes to raise $170,000 for the campaign to build a Ronald McDonald House in Las Vegas this year. The house will be a temporary lodging for families while their seriously ill children are treated at nearby hospitals and medical facilities. It will provide an environment of emotional support for parents and siblings of sick children. Customers who sign up for a new line of service at 360 The Cellular Store by Feb. 28 and make a $20 donation to the Ronald McDonald House will receive free unlimited inbound airtime for two months. 360 Communications will also contribute an additional $3.60 to the Ronald McDonald House for every $20 donated.

Volunteers

* SKILLED CRAFTSMAN -- RPS Nevada Corp., a local developer of affordable housing, has coordinated an all-volunteer effort to renovate a vacant warehouse at 1503 N. Main St. When completed, the facility will be the MASH Crisis Intervention Center, a one-stop center for individuals and families with children to go to before the cycle of homelessness occurs. * REBUILD HOMES & BRIGHTEN LIVES -- Christmas in April is seeking volunteers in fund-raising, marketing, home inspection and coordinating to assist in rehabilitating the houses of low-income, elderly and disabled homeowners. The program is enacting the old-fashioned barn-raising spirit -- rebuilding America one home at a time. Call 474-2425.

* PEDIATRIC AIDS -- Reach Out, a nonprofit pediatric AIDS organization offering day care and a learning center, needs volunteers for fund-raising, special events, bulk mail and day-care workers who will work one-on-one with children in the day-care center. Only day-care workers need a sheriff's card and a child-care health card. Also needed is a volunteer social worker with a bachelor's degree and a volunteer coordinator.
