Letter: Parties have different concepts of ethics violation

Friday, Jan. 10, 1997 | 11:59 a.m.

Remember George Bush's son? He had a hands-on operation of a savings and loan that went under. That was swept under the rug so fast, there's probably a lot of people who don't even remember it. Yet, at last count, they've spent more than $30 million trying to get some dirt on President Clinton and a savings and loan and, in three years, haven't come up with anything yet.

Now comes Newt. He finally admits he broke the rules, after lying and denying for months. This is a man with a college education and a college professor, and he didn't know what he was doing? Bull. If the ethics commission had kept digging, I'm sure they would have found more. This is why the confession.

I'm surprised the Republicans are putting themselves in his category.
