Another secret meeting on tax equity issue
Friday, Jan. 10, 1997 | 11:59 a.m.
Participants told the Las Vegas Review-Journal they are close to agreeing on a rate that would narrow the disparity between the two jurisdictions.
Taxpayers living in the city currently pay 71 cents per $100 of assessed valuation while residents in unincorporated areas of the county pay 38 cents. The difference is $124 annually in taxes on a $100,000 home in the city.
Thursday's meeting took place without public notice and without the knowledge of several city council and county commission members.
The state Attorney General's office objects to such meetings, saying such issues should be discussed in public.
